Silo bags

Silo bags are woven bags filled with round gravel, which are used to weigh down and stabilize the silo cover (underlay film, silo film and silo protection cover). They are woven from a synthetic monofilament yarn, very robust, durable and very easy to handle thanks to their loops and handles.

Our silo bags are made of high-quality HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) monofilament yarn and are manufactured in a very close-meshed weave. This gives them excellent strength.

Silo sacks are used in agriculture and are needed by farmers to better seal the silo cover (silo film, underlay film, silo guard) airtight and at the same time to weigh it down.

In order to achieve the optimum compaction of the silo, the use of silo bags is essential. Each silo bag from Zill is equipped with handles and therefore more convenient and easier to lay down on top of the silo. Furthermore, when using silo bags, rainwater can drain well from the silo, which often is collected in puddles in tires. Also, the risk of damage to the silo cover by scrap metals contained in tires is reduced immensely.

Silo bags should be used because they seal the silo optimally and they protect silo protection grids from rising due to wind. They offer many advantages over the use of old tires as a weight.

Preferably fill the silo bags with round gravel to achieve the best outcome. Split and other sharp-edged rubble can damage the bag. Filling it with sand causes rainwater to collect in puddles on the silo, because it cannot drain well.

To cover a silo correctly, several steps must be noted.

Step 1: First, cover the walls with side wall film. Our silo side wall clamps can help you here.

Step 2: Lay the underlay film as the first layer over the silage, then fold the side wall film from the outside over the underlay or suction film.

Step 3: Now cover the silo with the silage film.

Step 4: In order to protect the silage film from damage, a silage protection grid should absolutely be placed on top.

Step 5: Now weigh down the silo protection grid with silo bags and place them in lines across the silo.
