Agricultural stretch films

Agricultural stretch film or wrapping film is an extremely thin film that can be used to preserve pressed bales. It typically has 25 μm, is very stretchy, tear-resistant and has several layers containing various additives such as special adhesives or UV stabilizers.

Agricultural stretch films are usually required by farmers and contractors to protect pressed silo bales (round or square bales) and to enable the fermentation process by excluding air. In principle, this process is similar to that in clamp silos. The end result is high-quality forage. Silage bales are an ideal addition to the silo if you need smaller portions of silage that you need to access quickly or if you want to ensile smaller areas as well as smaller harvest quantities. In addition, silo bales can be flexibly stored at different locations.

Agricultural stretch films are used to wrap pressed hay and grass bales gastight thus preserving them long term. This protects them from spoilage and mold and therefore preserves the important nutrients of the valuable silage.

If you want to produce silage in smaller portions - also as an alternative to the clamp silo - you need agricultural stretch film. This stretch-wraps the pressed bales and seals them airtight to start the ensiling process. Due to the UV stabilizers, the wrapped silo bales can be stored outdoors for at least a year. We also have stretch films that are UV stable for at least 15 months!

In general, stretch films are produced using two different manufacturing techniques, the blown film process and the cast process. In the blown film process, the various melting layers are implemented and layered. The melt then exits through a ring nozzle and is led to the ceiling of the production facility, where it is cooled with air from inside and outside. On the other hand, in the casting process, the plastic melt is distributed in the wide slot nozzle and exits at the nozzle gap, where the melt is then immediately poured onto a cooling roll and instantly cooled there.

Basically, the blown film process is the better manufacturing process, as the film has better stretch, tear and puncture properties due to the more evenly aligned longitudinal and transverse direction of the molecular chains and can therefore withstand greater strain than a cast film.

Zill agricultural stretch films are manufactured exclusively using the blown film process and thus offer the best possible performance on every machine.

On one hand there are stretch films in which the adhesive is applied to the film and on the other hand there are stretch films in which the adhesive is incorporated in the film and is released by the stretching process or stretching.

Both variants each have their advantages.

For example, the stretch films with integrated adhesive are significantly quieter when unrolling and leave no adhesive residue on the rollers.

In general, we offer two different widths, 0.5 m and 0.75 m. Which of these is the right one depends on the winding machine used.
