Silage protection covers

Silo protection grids (also called silo protection nets) are placed over the silo coverage to protect them from external influences (eg hail, bird pecking). The net is woven from extremely robust monofilament yarns (HDPE). The stronger the yarn is, the denser is the weave and therefor the better is the protection.

Silage protection covers are primarily needed by farmers to protect silage films over their harvest from damage, thus preventing water and air from entering the silage.

If water or air enter into the valuable silage, there are losses due to mould or incorrect fermentation. To prevent this, silo protection grids are needed. They protect the silage films from environmental influences such as hail or storm and from damage caused by wild animals, rodents and bird pecking. They also have a wind-breaking effect, which prevents the foil from flapping underneath.

The price for a silo protection cover is calculated from the size (length and width) as well as the performance characteristics such as grammage, thread thickness and weaving adjustment. Your local retailer can give you the exact prices.

Silo protection nets are available in the following versions:
zilltex300 – ca. 300 g/m²
zilltec260 – ca. 260 g/m²
zilltec 240 – ca. 240 g/m²
tec220 – ca. 220 g/m²

All Zill silo protection covers are highly UV-resistent and can therefore be used for several years.

From experience Zill silo protection nets have a service life of more than 10 years when professionally stored and applicated. However, the silo nets should be replaced if they have holes, tears or other damage.

To cover a silo correctly, several steps must be noted.

Step 1: First, cover the walls with side wall film. Our silo side wall clamps can help you here.

Step 2: Lay the underlayer film as the first layer over the silage, then fold the side wall film from the outside over the underlay or suction film.

Step 3: Now cover the silo with the silo film.

Step 4: In order to protect the silage film from damage, a silage protection grid should absolutely be placed on top.

Step 5: Now weigh down the silo protection grid with silo bags and place them in lines across the silo.

For bulk silos and bunker silos with a steep pile, the silo bags can be afixed with the quick'n fix silo bag fastening system.
